Puri: Barely a week after a suspected ‘spy’ pigeon fitted with a tiny camera and a microchip was caught a boat off the Paradip coast, another similar bird was recovered in Odisha’s Puri district on Wednesday.
Sources said a resident of Nanpur village under Astaranga block of the coastal district caught the pigeon with some suspicious tag and device fitted on its leg.
Some text was also found written a tag, while a brass and a plastic rings were reportedly fitted to its leg. Villagers claimed that the pigeon had been flying over the area for over the last one week.
Finding it suspicious, the house owner caught it. He also informed the police about the pigeon. Efforts are on to ascertain whether the bird was being used for spying.
The development comes a week after some fishermen found a suspected ‘spy’ pigeon, with a tiny camera-like device and a microchip fitted on its legs off Paradip coast in Jagatsinghpur district.
The bird was captured and handed over to Paradip Marine Police on March 8. Investigation into the episode is underway.
