Bhawanipatna: A government employee died while undergoing treatment for suspected sunstroke in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Sahu from Chikili village of Kokasara block. He is survived by a 4-year-old daughter, a 4-month-old infant and wife.
According to sources, Chandan, who worked in the Rural Housing Department in Jayapatna block, complained of uneasiness after returning home on Thursday afternoon. As his condition wo
rsened the next day, he was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Bhawanipatna on Friday. He came home that night after receiving treatment.
His health deteriorated on Saturday, and his family rushed him to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Koksara. They then shifted him to a private nursing home at Jayapatna, where he died during treatment. His family has alleged that he suffered sunstroke, which caused his death.
It may be noted that two school teachers engaged in fieldwork for Census 2027 died within two days in separate incidents in Odisha recently. In Mayurbhanj, teacher Rajkapur Hembram died on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Baripada after falling unconscious during census duty. Similarly, Anurag Ekka passed away while undergoing treatment at DHH Sundargarh for heat stroke during enumeration work in Sundargarh district.
