Another Techie Ends Life, Leaves Behind Message Accusing Wife Of Torture

Agra: An IT professional from Agra, working as recruitment manager for a renowned company at its office in Mumbai, allegedly committed suicide after leaving a 6.57-minute video in which he accused his wife of torture. Manav Sharma’s wife has, however, denied the charges, claiming that he was an ‘alcoholic’, unable to deal with challenges.

Though Sharma reportedly ended his life on February 24, the video surfaced on Friday after the Sadar Police Station in Agra finally registered a complaint based on a WhatsApp message from the parents. They had initially refused to register a complaint, but the parents took up the matter with the Uttar Pradesh CMO. This prompted the police to start investigations on Thursday night.

The incident comes barely two months after techie Atul Subhash, also from UP, took his own life in Bengaluru after leaving a 24-page suicide note. He had also blamed his wife and in-laws for trying to extort Rs 3 crore from him by using their four-year-old child.

Sharma, the only child of a retired Indian Air Force officer, got married a year ago and took his wife to Mumbai. He returned to their Defence Colony home in Agra a few days ago. On Monday, his parents broke into his room to find him hanging from the ceiling fan. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.

In his video message, Sharma has said: “Please think of men too. Please, someone should talk about men. Sorry Papa, Mummy. Sorry Akku. Everything will be fine once I am gone. Please don’t bother my family about my suicide.”

The police said that they will probe all angles. Apart from speaking to Sharma’s wife and her family, they will also collect information from his colleagues and friends in Mumbai.
