Balangir: The carcass of a tusker was discovered by forest department personnel in a forest in Odisha’s Balangir on Saturday.
According to sources, the elephant carcass was spotted in Purunapandi ghat forest in Sulipahada of Deogaon block of Balangir.
The forest personnel accompanied by veterinarians reached the spot and conducted preliminary inquiry.
It is suspected that the elephant was killed by poachers, said sources.
Four days back, the carcass of a tusker was recovered from Asura Dunguri forest under Sadar Range of Balangir Forest Division.
A tusk of the elephant was found missing from the carcass which indicated that the tusker was killed by poachers.
