Balangir: Members of an anti-liquor outfit staged a massive demonstration before Balangir collector’s office on Friday, demanding immediate closure of liquor shops near the railway station.
“We have decided to sensitize people, especially youths, regarding the ill effects of liquor and alcohol consumption. The liquor shops near the railway station and nearby areas have been the major cause of disturbances in our locality. The district administration paid no heed to our legitimate demand despite repeated requests. We will continue the agitation till our demand is fulfilled,” one of the protestors said.
Four days ago, a group of women from Bharatpur ransacked a country liquor unit and destroyed liquor bottles demanding total prohibition in the area.
