Anti-Maoist Ops: Naveen, Rajnath Pat For DGP

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday congratulated Director General of Police (DGP) R P Sharma for successful anti-Maoist operations in the state in the last couple of days.

As many as seven Red rebels were gunned down in Balangir and Kandhamal districts by Odisha police and plans are afoot to further intensify the operation.

Rajnath had personally called the DGP to congratulate him. He had words of praise for Odisha police for the well-coordinated operations based on intelligence inputs.

The Union Minister also had a telephonic conversation with the chief minister and discussed the ongoing operations against the Left-wing extremists. He praised Odisha government for the efforts to weed out Maoist menace in the state.

Naveen also patted Sharma on the success of the operations.

The DGP, who is in Visakhapatnam to hold talks with his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, told Odisha Bytes: “Bach-to-back successful operations have acted as a morale booster for us. We have made good use of the intelligence inputs and the kind of success we have got is unique. We hope to achieve a few more success in the near future.”

These two operations were carried out by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the District Voluntary Force (DVF) led by the Balangir SP K Siba Subramani and Kalahandi SP Pratik Singh respectively.

The DGP had earlier told mediapersons that they would come down hard on the Maoists in coordination with the neighbouring Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Telangana police. Efforts are on to further strengthen the intelligence network in Maoist-prone Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, he added.
