Baripada: Continuing their drive against poachers and illegal arms racket, police have seized three guns and arrested 3 persons in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mayurbhanj SP Batula Gangadhar said following reliable inputs, a special squad of the district police conducted raid on the house of Jadunath Hansda in Jadunathpur village under Badasahi police limits.
During search of the house, the team found two unlicensed country guns and arrested Hansda. He confessed to the police that he used the guns for poaching. On the basis of information provided by him, the team arrested two other poachers who assisted Hansda. They are Thakur Singh and Madhu Singh.
During another raid, the team seized another country gun from Kasikundali village under Udala police station but has not arrested anybody in this connection.
The SP said they have formed special teams to detect illegal arms used by the poachers and arrest them. The step has been taken following killing of a Forester allegedly by poachers in Similipal Tiger Reserve in the district recently.
It may be noted that on July 3, the police had busted an illegal gun making unit in the district and seized a single barrel gun, 4 barrels, 2 barrel sockets and one welding machine from a house. Jitu Lohar of Bejidiha village under Mahulidiha police station, who was running the unit, was arrested.
