Baripada: In their drive against poachers, police have seized large number of arms and ammunition in Similipal Tiger Reserve area in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Speaking to media person on Saturday, Mayurbhanj SP B Gangadhar said in continuation of the special drive launched to de-weaponise and weed out poachers in Similipal Tiger Reserve area, a search operation was conducted by personnel of Khunta police station on the basis of intelligence inputs.
“The search operation was carried out in Tunki, Rangamatia, Kusumghati, Dengam Baniabasa and Jadidar villages in the police station area on Friday afternoon. As many as 8 country made gun (SBML) and a country made small fire-arm which were hidden in a jungle near Tunki and Baniabasa by unknown persons were seized during the operation,” he said.
Khunta police has registered two cases under Arms Act and launched further investigation. However, nobody has been arrested in this connection.
