Bhubaneswar: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) court in Odisha’s Anugola convicted 10 accused persons and sentenced them to life imprisonment in the murder of Derjang dam watchman Jagannath Senapati, alias Jagan.
The incident dates back to September 18, 2021. At around 8.30 pm, Jagannath was allegedly taken on a motorcycle to the eastern embankment road of Derjang dam, near Rantalei village, to discuss arrangements for a feast.
As it turned out, it was a planned move to attack Jagannath.
On reaching the spot, the accused persons allegedly attacked Jagannath with sticks, swords and other sharp weapons. Jagannath sustained severe injuries and died at the spot.
Anugola Sadar police registered a case and launched a murder investigation.
Sub-inspector Srinibas Sethi, the investigating officer, collected evidence and recorded statements before submitting a chargesheet before the court.
The court examined the evidence and witness testimonies in the case and, after a prolonged legal process, found all 10 accused guilty, and subsequently sentenced each of them to life imprisonment.
