Bhubaneswar: The Centre has sanctioned over 9.59 lakh housing units for Odisha under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), senior BJP leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said, asking the state government to issue work orders to the beneficiaries by next month.
Addressing a press meet in Bubaneswar on Thursday, the Lok Sabha member said that the Centre has also granted Rs 7250 crore for the construction of these PMAY houses in Odisha as Narendra Modi government is committed to the welfare of the poor.
Of the over 9.59 lakh houses sanctioned by the Union Rural Development Ministry, around 1.42 lakh are meant for the people affected by cyclone Fani which had left a trail of destruction in several parts of the state, she said.
Describing the step taken by the Centre as significant, the senior BJP leader said the state government must take immediate steps to issue work orders for construction of houses to all the eligible people by the end of February.
“All the 9.59 lakh beneficiaries should get the work orders by February and I request the state government ensure that it is done in a transparent manner,” the lawmaker said.
Expressing happiness that 10,147 of the PMAY houses sanctioned by the Centre are in Khurda district, Sarangi said many of the beneficiaries belong to her constituency.
