Bhubaneswar: BJP MP from Bhubaneswar Aparajita Sarangi has urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to extend support and 50 acre land for the establishment of Tata Memorial Hospital for Cancer on the campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Odisha capital.

Aparajita, who visited the campus and reviewed progress of the Rs 650 crore project on Saturday, informed the Chief Minister that the Union Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship has agreed to contribute around 10-13 acre of land for the purpose.

Since more land is required for the cancer care project, the Lok Sabha MP  requested Naveen to make provision of around 50 acre of adjoining land and launch a convenient public transport system from Bhubaneswar railway station and airport to the proposed hospital site.

She also urged the Chief Minister to take steps for providing electricity supply from Arugul and Mendhasal grid and ensure water supply to the hospital.

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Ministry of Skill Development and Tata Trusts have agreed to build the cancer hospital on NISER campus. While the DAE and Tata Trusts Rs 650 for the project, the Skill Development Ministry has agreed to contribute around 10-13 acres of land, she said in the letter, a copy of which was released to the media on Sunday.

Stating that Tata Memorial Hospital for cancer in Bhubaneswar will be a good example of convergence, the BJP leader said the Ministries of the Centre, the relevant departments of the state government and Tata Trusts need to work together very closely supplementing each other’s efforts to see this project through in a record time.

Noting that plans are afoot to lay the foundation stone for the project in the next three months, Aparajita said once the work gets started, it can be completed within 18 months.
