New Delhi: Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has issued a public clarification following widespread reaction to remarks he made about experiencing a shift in opportunities within the Hindi film industry. His video statement, released on social media, reaffirmed his deep commitment to India, its cultural diversity, and the unifying power of music.
In the address, Rahman described India as “my inspiration, my teacher and my home,” emphasising that his work through musi
c has always been meant to honour and celebrate the country’s rich cultural tapestry. He said his remarks were misunderstood and that he “never wished to cause pain,” urging that his sincerity be recognised.
“Music has always been my way of connecting, celebrating and honouring our culture… I have never wished to cause pain, and I hope my sincerity is felt,” Rahman stated in the video, as reported by India Today.
In his video, Rahman highlighted several artistic initiatives intended to celebrate India’s diversity. The clarification follows a recent interview with the BBC Asian Network in which Rahman spoke about the evolution of his work in Bollywood. He acknowledged that over the past eight years, his projects in the Hindi film world had declined and suggested that a shift in decision-making power away from creative voices might be one reason.
