Angul: In a broad daylight heist, a gang of armed dacoits looted cash worth over 5 lakh and ornaments from Indian Overseas Bank’s (IOB) branch at Hari Mahuri Square in Angul town on Saturday.
According to sources, six armed dacoits barged into the bank after it opened at 10 am. They threatened the customers and beat up three bank employees, including the manager.
Later, they took the keys from the bank employees and decamped with cash worth over 5 lakh and ornaments.
Before leaving the bank, the dacoits damaged the CCTV and the hard disk, the sources added.
Eyewitnesses said the dacoits had come to the bank on three bikes.
Following information, DIG, North-Western Range, Narasingh Bhol, Angul SP and IIC of Angul Police Station rushed to the bank for an on-the-spot investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the security guard of the bank was not present when the dacoity took place.
Till reports last came in, the bank officials were being questioned by the cops for more information about the incident.
Police has sealed all entry and exit points in the town to nab the dacoits.
The condition of the bank manager, who was beaten up by the dacoits, is stated to be stable, sources in the district headquarters hospital said.
