Armed Miscreants Loot Over Rs 1.5 Crore From Bank In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In the second major loot in this month, unidentified miscreants targeted a branch of Odisha Gramya Bank in Dhenkanal district and decamped with more than Rs 1.5 crore on Friday.

According to sources, four miscreants came on two motorcycles to the bank’s branch at Mahabirod under Kamakshyanagar block of the district in the afternoon. One of them fired in the air and told the bank employees and a few customers present at the time to a room.

They locked the room before taking an employee with the keys to the strong room. They brought 4 trunks where the mortgaged gold jewelleries of the bank’s customers were kept from the strong room. Around 500 packets containing the jewellery were inside the trunks. They kept the jewellery and Rs 50 lakh taken from cash counter in two bags.

The miscreants threatened the employees not to inform the police immediately and fled on their bikes. The looted jewelleries were worth more than Rs 1 crore, bank sources said.

However, on being informed by the bank employees, a team from Mahabirod police station rushed to the bank which does not have a security guard. The police seized the CCTV footage of the bank.

From the findings of the CCTV footage, the police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused. But they have not revealed the identity of the miscreants.

It may be noted that some miscreants had looted Rs 15 lakh from manager of a company in Lodhani under Parjang police limits in the district on January 9. The accused are yet to be traced.
