Cuttack: Masked miscreants allegedly looted around Rs 1.5 crore cash from an ATM loading van in Tigiria area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.
As per preliminary information, the loot incident took place on Godijharia Nua Sadak Road near a rice mill under Tigiria Police limits of the district.
Over eight masked miscreants carrying firearms chased the ATM cash van in an SUV and motorcycles. They waylaid the van at a secluded place near rice mill, sources said.
The miscreants asked the driver to stop the van pointing pistol at him. Thereafter, they fled the spot with a trunk loaded with cash from the van. The trunk reportedly contained cash of over Rs 1.5 crore.
On being informed about the incident, police personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation. Efforts are on to identify and nab the robbers, while police from nearby districts have been alerted about the incident.
