Hathras: Two persons were arrested on Saturday for the murder of an Army jawan near Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. The soldier was apparently shot dead because he had a “love marriage” with a woman from the killers’ family.

Those arrested have been identified as Bobby and Raja. They are residents of Samadpur village in the Sadabad police station area.

The two were arrested near Gori Gopal Dhaba at Kursanda Mod, the police said. Officials also said that two illegal country-made pistols, live cartridges, empty shells and a car allegedly used in the crime were seized from their possession, as reported by PTI.

The crime occurred on Thursday when Akhilesh Chaudhary (28), posted as a driver at an army workshop in Agra, was travelling towards hi

s base after attending a court hearing in Hathras.

He was attacked near a cold storage on the Aligarh-Agra Road (National Highway 93) by assailants who arrived in a car and on a motorcycle. The men opened fire, killing the soldier on the spot, officials said.

The two men who were arrested told the police during interrogation that the murder was planned due to an old enmity.

According to them, the soldier had entered into a love marriage with a woman from their family, which, according to them, led to social embarrassment and resentment. This prompted them to plot the murder with their associates, the police said.

The jawan’s sister Dolly Kumari lodged a complaint at the Sadabad police station, following which an FIR was registered. She claimed that her brother was returning from court in a friend’s car when the attack took place near a farmhouse.

Five police teams were formed to crack the case, superintendent of police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said.

“Two accused have been arrested, and necessary legal action is being taken. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused involved in the incident,” he has been quoted as saying.
