Bargarh: Normal life was hit at Bhatli in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Friday following a dawn-to-dusk bandh call given by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in protest against the arrest of its state unit secretary Irashis Acharya by the police the previous day.

While all trading establishments and government offices remained closed in the Bhatli town areas, vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt.

To prevent any untoward incident during the bandh, police forces have been deployed in sensitive areas.

Notably, Bulu Satnami (18) of Chamarpada in Sohela area of the district had died after being shot in the head in front of the BJP office near the residence of Acharya at Bhatli on June 1.

He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition and succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to VIMSAR in Burla.Police later registered a case under section 302, 114 and 34 of the IPC.

During the investigation, police had arrested Babulu Nag and Pramod Podha. On the basis of the statement of the two youths, police arrested Acharya after interrogating him at the police station on Thursday night. He was then produced in the court which rejected his bail petition and remanded him to judicial custody.
