Jharsuguda: The journalist of a web portal, who was arrested by the Jharsuguda police on Tuesday for cheating a woman, was forwarded to the court on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda SDPO Nirmal Mohapatra told the media that the accused, Dipak Dehury, a journalist of Janane News web portal, had made a friendship with a woman of Badmal area of Jharsuguda on Facebook in May.
In course of chatting, he expressed his love for her and wanted to marry her. The woman agreed to the proposal and on Dipak’s request, came to meet him. Dipak took her to his house at Panchpara near Jharsuguda town to stay together.
During their stay for 15 days, Dipak transferred Rs 3 lakh from the account of the woman’s mother to his wife’s account without informing the woman.
When the woman came to know that Dipak was married and had taken the money, she lodged a complaint in Badamal Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Dipak from Darlipalli in Sundagarh district on Tuesday.
“Police have seized the identity card and some incriminating document from the possession of the accused. If necessary, they will take him on remand for further interrogation,” the SDPO said.
