Baripada: One of the three wildlife smugglers who were arrested along with four leopard skins in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, escaped during treatment from a hospital on Monday.
After their arrest on Sunday, the three accused were taken to the Baripada police station for interrogation. However, one of the accused, identified Rupay Marandi, complained of uneasiness and chest pain last night.
He was taken to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) in Baripada at night for treatment.
However, the accused was found missing in the early hours of Sunday as he had managed to give a slip to the forest personnel and flee from their custody when he was in the health facility.
While a manhunt has been launched to nab Rupay, the Baripada DFO has issued a show cause notice to the Officer in-charge of the Baripada police station in connection with the incident.
