New Delhi: Vasundhara Oswal, daughter of Indian-origin billionaire Pankaj Oswal, has raised allegations of causing human rights violations against Ugandan authorities after being imprisoned for over three weeks on false charges of kidnapping and attempt to murder of former staffer of her father’s company. According to reports, the person was found alive in Tanzania.
Now, Vasundhara has claimed she was subjected to inhumane treatment. The entrepreneur also alleged that she was denied of basic essentials, and even stopped from using the washroom as punishment. She alleged that her arrest was planned by business rivals, reported the India Today.
Her father is an Australian-Swiss businessman. Vasundhara Oswal was arrested in Uganda on October 1, 2024, after being charged with the abduction and killing of Mukesh Menaria.
Vasundhara Oswal recounted her prison ordeal and the horrific conditions while speaking to various news agencies.
“I was detained for five days and then imprisoned for another two weeks. My human rights were completely disregarded. I wasn’t even provided with food, water, or even a shower. My parents had to bribe police officers through lawyers just to provide me with the bare necessities that I required,” she said.
She wasn’t allowed to bathe or change her clothes for those 90 hours, her Instagram post read.
Oswal also claimed that the Ugandan officials came to her premises without a warrant. When she asked them if they had a warrant, she stated the officers replied, “We are in Uganda. We can do anything. You’re not in Europe anymore.”
She explained that she was taken to the Interpol office under false pretense. She also claimed to have been forced to make a statement without a lawyer.
