Bhubaneswar: An artist of Khurda district has created a miniature idol of Devi Durga inside a bottle as a mark of his offering to the Goddess on the occasion of Dussera.
The artist, L Eswar Rao of Gopinathpur village under Jatni block, who has been making miniature sculptures for a long time, wanted to send a message on conservation of ecology during the festival when the idols made of non-bio-degradable materials pollute the water sources during immersion.
With this aim in view, he created an eco-friendly figurine of Durga with soil and painted it with bio-friendly colours inside a glass bottle. It took him 7 days to complete the art work.
“This year I have made a small eco-friendly Durga idol. I have used spangles to enhance the beauty of the mini sculpture. I worked on it for seven days. It is made purely with soil. I also used some papers and glasses to decorate it,” said Eswar.
“I made this idol to offer to Devi for her blessings for all of us,” he added.
Rao has been creating such miniature sculptures for the last 25 years and has won several awards for his works.
