New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal is not walking out of Tihar jail, at least not immediately.
The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed a trial court order which had granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a day earlier, in the now-scrapped liquor policy case.
The high court said it will pass the order on Enforcement Directorate’s stay application in two to three days, till which time the trial court order will remain stayed, reported Bar and Bench.
The high court had paused the bail order in the morning, saying it wanted to hear the ED which moved the higher court against the Rouse Avenue court order.
After hearing both parties, Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain said he is reserving the matter for a detailed order to be pronounced in 2-3 days.
“I am reserving the order for two to three days. Till pronouncement of the order, the operation of the trial court order is stayed,” said the single-judge bench.
On Thursday, the trial court had granted bail to Kejriwal and ordered his release on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh.
Special Judge Niyay Bindu said that ED has failed to provide any direct evidence linking Kejriwal to the proceeds of the crime and also failed to show that another accused, Vijay Nair, was acting on Kejriwal’s behalf. She also said that the ED was acting with bias against Kejriwal.
The order, passed on Thursday evening, was available only on Friday.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21.
