Mumbai: As COVID-19 cases in the country surge, Maharashtra also witnessed a spike with the state registering 876 Omicron cases so far. Mumbai recorded 20,318 cases.
With an aim to check the infection from spreading, Maharashtra government has imposed fresh COVID-19 restrictions, including night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am from January 10.
The curbs also include those of gyms, beauty salons, zoos, museums, entertainment parks and swimming pools. Hair cutting salons and malls will have to operate at 50 per cent capacity.
An order issued by the government also states that the movement of people in groups of 5 or more is barred and no visitors will be allowed in government offices.
Restaurants and malls will have be shut down between 10 pm and -8 am.
Private offices will have to rationalise work from home (WFH), and office timings.
A maximum of 50 people will be allowed in marriage, funeral, religious, social cultural gatherings.
Educational institutions and classes will be closed till February 15, except for activities carried out for Class 10 and 12 students, stated reports in NDTV.
As on Saturday, Maharashtra had 41,434 new COVID cases, 9,671 recoveries and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The active COVID-19 cases in India stand at 4,72,169 while the positivity rate is 9.28 per cent. India on Friday had crossed the 1 lakh single-day rise mark, merely 36 days after the first cases of the fast-spreading Omicron variant were detected in the country on December 2.
