Cuttack: Are your sequin-studded, sparkling Garba outfits ready? The colourful festive fervour has already begun. Durga Puja festivity bells have already started to ring. Being one of the most auspicious festivals, it is celebrated in different shades with different customs in different states of India.

Gujarati families have been staying for more than 100 years in Cuttack. A majority of them reside near Balu Bazaar and College Square. Some families later moved to Buxi Bazaar and Mahanadi Vihar.

“The Gujrati Samaj is celebrating 100 years of dandiya celebration Cuttack this year. We are celebrating Navratri at four places, including Balu Bazaar and College Square. The event has started on September 26 and will end on Dussehra,” Amit Thakkar, a member of Akhil Cuttack Gujarati Samaj told Odisha Bytes.

The programme begins at 6.30 pm every day and ends at 10.30 pm with an orchestra team belting out both traditional and contemporary songs. “We don’t take any money from individuals. Every year the Samaj members organise Navratri celebrations where more than 300 people turn up to groove to the beats,” he said.

Besides, Pramod Convention in Cuttack city is also organising a dandiya night on October 1. The entry ticket is Rs 2,000 for two people.

“Along with the dandiya programme on DJ music, there will be an arrangement for dinner,” Reservations Executive Swapnasarit Baliarsingh said. The tickets are only being booked online, he added.

Several venues in Bhubaneswar are also organising Dandiya night this year. Chere here:
