As India Fights COVID 2nd Wave, Apple CEO Tim Cook Pledges Support

New Delhi: In a show of solidarity with India which is fighting the second wave of COVID-19, Apple CEO Tim Cook has also announced his support by donations and assistance in relief efforts on the ground.

Cook pledged his support through a tweet in which he wrote:

As India continues to report over 3 lakh coronavirus cases a day, several countries and international organisations have pledged support to the government.

Earlier, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella assured help to India.

Pichai had announced Rs 135 crore ($18 million USD) in new funding for India. This includes two grants from Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, totalling Rs 20 crore.

The first is to GiveIndia to provide cash assistance to families hit hardest by the crisis to help with their everyday expenses.

The second will go to UNICEF to help get urgent medical supplies, including oxygen and testing equipment, to where it’s needed most in India, Pichai had stated.

Nadella said Microsoft will continue to use its “voice, resources, and technology to aid relief efforts, and support the purchase of critical oxygen concentration devices.”

Silicon Valley giant and entrepreneur-investor Vinod Khosla too had assured support. He had said in a tweet on Sunday, “I’m willing to fund hospitals in India that need funding to import bulk planeloads of oxygen or supplies into India to increase supply. Public hospitals/NGOs also pls reach out.”
