New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away at AIIMS New Delhi on August 16, would be immersed in major rivers of Odisha.
This was decided at a meeting of the senior BJP leaders in New Delhi on Sunday.
The ashes were to be brought to the government quarters of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in New Delhi the same day, but was delayed with party’s national president Amit Shah away in Haridwar attending the rituals of the late former PM.
According to sources, a team of senior BJP leaders of Odisha will receive the ashes from Amit Shah on Monday and arrive in Bhubaneswar in the evening.
These will be kept at the party’s state headquarters office for the general public for two days and later immersed in the Mahanadi, Baitarani, Rushikulya and Brahmani rivers in phases.
Before the immersion of the ashes of the veteran leader, prayers meetings will be organised in each district and panchayat of the state, the sources added.
