ASI Suspended For Letting Off Quack Who Administered Livestock Injections To Patient

Baripada: The ASI of Mahuldiha police station, Pabitra Mohan Rout, was suspended on Thursday for dereliction of duty in connection with the alleged administration of livestock injection to a man by a quack in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The action was taken against ASI since he had let off the quack after locals of Mahuldiha nabbed and handed him over to police.

Notably, the quack, identified Biswanath Behera (62) of Kantipal in Keonjhar district, had administered three livestock injections to a 55-year-old Srikanta Mohanta suffering from back pain at Thakurmunda community health centre (CHC) on April 16.

He also gave some tablets to Mohanta and asked him to consume them twice a day. The accused charged Rs 470 for the treatment.

Suspecting foul play, Mohanta took photos of the medicine and injection and sent those pics to a doctor in Thakurmunda, who confirmed that the injection was meant for animals. Luckily, he did not develop any complications and is reportedly stable.

It is being alleged that police had let him go on the condition that he will bear all treatment costs of Srikant if he develops any health problem due to the livestock injections.

Mahuldiha police have registered a case against the quack, who is absconding, under Sections 417, 337 and 307 of the IPC.

The incident also proved the recent SBI research report stating that Odisha accounts for the highest percentage of deaths in the country due to treatment by untrained healthcare providers and practitioners correct.
