Malkangiri: An Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) and two home guards of Mudulipada police station, here were arrested on Saturday for allegedly taking bribe from ganja smugglers.
According to the sources, the police officials were on patrolling duty at Khairiput locality on August 4 when they stopped a vehicle. On checking, they found ganja being smuggled in the vehicle by some people. Instead of taking action against the ganja smugglers, the police officials let the vehicle go reportedly after taking bribe.
Following a complaint to higher police officers in this regard, an investigation was launched. The ASI and two home guards were arrested on Saturday and will be forwarded to court on Sunday.
Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Dyandeo Khilari has also put the SI of the Mudulipada police station under suspension for dereliction of duty.
