Kalahandi: Vigilance sleuths on Sunday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Dharmagarh police station in Kalahandi district for allegedly demanding bribe to release an accused on bail.
According to a complaint lodged by Bhairab Jagat, ASI Sibanarayan Dip asked him to cough up Rs 5,000 for releasing him on bail and out of court settlement of the matter.
The vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the policeman red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
“A case has been registered against Sibanarayan at the same police station where he was posted and he is being interrogated,” a senior official from the vigilance department said.
In April, inspector-in-charge of Loisingha police station Antaryami Behera was arrested for allegedly carrying unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 4.62 lakh in his car. The vigilance officials arrested him at Binka in Balangir district after recovering the money from his vehicle.
