Colombo: Rain continued to irritate the Indian and Pakistani teams as their Asia Cup Super 4 clash could not be completed on Sunday.
But there are still chances of a result as the organisers Asian Cricket Council (ACC) earmarked a reserve day only for this fixture.
The group league match between the traditional rivals had been washed out on September 2 with just the Indian innings having been completed. There was no reserve day for that one.
India, asked to bat first after Babar Azam won the toss at Premadasa Stadium today, got off to a rollicking start thanks to a 121-run partnership between skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Both openers raced to their half-centuries at better than a run a ball before they fell in successive overs. Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 17 and comeback-man KL Rahul on 8, when the skies opened up.
The rains did relent after a few hours, but despite a number of ground inspections, the umpires couldn’t restart the game due to a wet outfield.
India will resume on their overnight score of 147/2, which they scored in 24.1 overs. The men in blue will be able to complete their full quota of 50 overs tomorrow, before Pakistan bat.
But the weather remains a big question mark.
Thunderstorms and rain are predicted on Monday as well, so there is no guarantee of getting a full game.
