New Delhi: Hours after Indian archery compound women’s team, comprising Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur, secured top podium finish, the mixed doubles pair of Harinder Pal Sandhu and Dipika Pallikal beat Malaysia in the mixed doubles event to win India’s 20th gold at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.
While India has further consolidated its fourth place by adding two more golds to its tally, it is still far from the top three — China, Japan and South Korea — who are also the only three nations at the 19th Asian Games to surpass the 100-medal mark. India’s medal tally stands at 83 with 20 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze.
Meanwhile, India has entered semis of Men’s Compound Team event with Abhishek Verma, Ojas Pravin and Prathamesh defeating Bhutan 235-221. Later in the day, Savita Punia and Co will face a stiff test against hosts China with the women’s hockey team looking to replicate their male counterparts’ feat and reach the final. Antim Panghal will also take on Mongolia’s Bat-Achir Bolortuya in the women’s freestyle 53kg bronze medal match.
