New Delhi: India clinched its third gold medal on day three of the Asian Games 2023 on Tuesday as its Equestrian team secured a top-of-the-podium finish in the dressage event in 41 years.
The Indian team of Sudipti Hajela (Chinski – horse name), Hriday Vipul Chheda (Chemxpro Emerald), Anush Agarwalla (Etro), and Divyakriti Singh (Adrenalin Firfod) scripted history with a total score of 209.205 while China bagged silver with 204.882 and Hong Kong China finished third with 204.852. 23-year-old Anush Agarwalla scored 71.088, the most points for India.
This is the first-ever gold medal for India in the team dressage event and the fourth in equestrian at the Asian Games. The other 3 gold medals came at the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi.
This is also India’s 14th medal at 2023 Asian Games so far, and the third gold. On Monday, men’s 10m air rifle team won the first gold medal of the ongoing games, with the women’s cricket team bagging a second.
Indian sailors Neha Thakur and Eabad Ali had earlier opened the country’s medal count today with a silver and bronze respectively.
