New Delhi: HS Prannoy ended India’s 41-year-long wait for a second medal at Asian Games in men’s singles badminton by winning a bronze on Friday.
He went down 16-21, 9-21 against home-favourite Li Shi Feng of China in semifinal in Hangzhou.
Syed Modi previously won bronze medal in 1982 edition of the Asian Games.
Indian archers also ended a 13-year long wait for a medal in recurve section as the women’s team of Ankita Bhakat, Simranjeet Kaur and Bhajan Kaur defeated Vietnam with a score of 6-2 to win a bronze. This was the record seventh medal overall in archery at the ongoing Asian Games. India has already won three team gold medals in compound, mixed, women’s and men’s sections.
On the 13th day, the men’s cricket also entered the semis after beating Bangladesh by nine wickets at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field with an exceptional bowling performance by spinner Sai Kishore and explosive batting displays from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma. In the final, they will face the winner of the match between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
