Bhubaneswar: An assistant section officer (ASO) was found hanging in his rented house in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Police sources said the ASO, identified as Mora Marandi, was working in the Steel and Mines department of Lok Seva Bhavan in the city. He was staying with his friend Lalmohan, who also works in Lok Seva Bhavan, in the rented house in Acharya Vihar for the last six months.
Lalmohan had gone somewhere and returned to the house at around 2 pm. He found the main door locked from inside and there was no response despite repeated knocking for a long time.
Suspecting something wrong, Lalmohan told the house owner about it and both of them went to the back of the rented house to verify. They saw through a window that Mora was hanging from the ceiling and informed the police.
A team from Saheednagar police station came to the house and broke open the door. The sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case.
While the exact cause of death would be known after getting the post-mortem, the police suspected it to be a case of suicide, the sources said.
