Puri: Assam government proposes set up a Yatri Niwas in Odisha’s Puri to facilitate stay of the devotees visiting Jagannath temple from the north-eastern state.
This was stated by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking to media persons after offering puja in Jagannath temple on Sunday. “I will write to the Odisha government to provide necessary assistance to construct a Yatri Niwas in Puri for the devotees coming from Assam to have darshan of Lord Jagannath here,” he said.
On his arrival at Singhadwar (Lions Gate) of Jagannath temple, Biswa Sarma was welcomed by Puri MLA Jayant Sarangi by offering him a “Khandua Pata” (traditional Bandha or Ikat sari). BJP’s national spokesman Sambit Patra, Puri district president Asrit Pattnaik and other leaders were present.
Biswa Sarma said he had earlier come to the temple alone. This time, he came with his family to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath, he added. “I prayed to the Lord for wellbeing and prosperity of the people of Assam and peace in the world,” he said.
