Bhubaneswar: A jawan of Assam Rifles from Odisha has reportedly been killed in strife-torn Manipur in an accident during patrolling.
The jawan has been identified as Neelachal Patel, a resident of Baghapali village under Bheden block in Bargarh district. He had joined the Assam Rifles in 2004.
Patel sustained grievous injuries after the vehicle in which he was travelling met with an accident on Friday night and later succumbed. The mortal remains of the jawan are expected to arrive at his village on Monday for the last rites, sources said.
Patel’s death has come a day after an Odia CRPF jawan was martyred in neighbouring Jharkhand in an Maoist attack. The mortal remains of Sushant Khuntia were consigned to flames at his native place on Saturday with full state honour.
