Bhubaneswar: After arresting three persons for assaulting a man in the Odisha capital, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday permanently removed PCR van in-charge Subhash Chandra Rout, an ex-Army personnel, from the police department for negligence. He was earlier suspended for allegedly remaining a mute spectator during the attack.
The man, identified as Parbinder Pal Singh, was allegedly assaulted by three persons in front of his daughter following an altercation over car parking at Bhagwan Tower on Cuttack Road at Jharpada here on Tuesday.
Three persons, Sankar Rout, Deepak Mohanty and Deepak Jena, arrested in connection with the incident have been forwarded to court and Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi has asked the officer concerned to submit a chargesheet against them within three days.
The trio, however, secured bail from Bhubaneswar SDJM’s court within a few hours after their arrest.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra alleged that those arrested are BJD workers. Alleging s nexus between police and goons, he claimed that the policeman called the victim out of his house and got him assaulted.
One of the accused, Deepak Jena is the son of a former corporator, sources said.
Delhi Akali Dal MLA and president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Manjinder Singh Sirsa claimed that the assault as the outcome of the protest against demolition of Mangu Mutt demolition in Puri, The businessman was one among those who opposed the move.
Tagging the office of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Sirsa said, “Shocked and angry to see such a merciless hate attack on Amritdhari Sikh Parvinder Pal Singhji in Bhubaneshwar; the attack looks planned and with full support of local administration since a policeman is seen in the video who doesn’t help the innocent person.”
However, police sources said the dispute was a stray incident over parking and not a premeditated assault.
BJD spokesperson Sambit Patra also asked the saffron party not to politicise the incident.
