Assistant Engineer Arrested For Having 263% More Assets Than Known Income Sources In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Vigilance on Thursday arrested assistant engineer Pravat Kumar Rout for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of 263% of known sources of income in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Rout, assistant engineer, Panhayat Samiti, Dampada, Vigilance officials conducted simultaneous house searches at 4 places in Cuttack and Kendrapada districts on Wednesday.

During the raids following assets were found in the name of Rout:

  • A triple-storey building worth Rs 1.25 crore.
  • 4 plots, including 3 in prime areas of Bhubaneswar & Cuttack and one at Rajkanika, Kendrapada. The measurement and valuation/assessment of the plots is being carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing.
  • Bank & insurance deposits of about Rs 45 lakh.
  • 300 gm gold and 378 gm silver jewellery
  • A four-wheeler ( i-20 Asta Car) worth Rs.11,17,900
  • 2 two-wheelers.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Rout were calculated and he was found in possession of  disproportionate assets which is 263% higher than his known sources of income.

The Vigilance arrested him as he could not account for the properties satisfactorily and forwarded to court. Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under PC Act, 1988 in this connection and further investigation is on.
