Nabarangpur: Umerkote police on Sunday arrested the absconding Assistant Engineer Asit Patra in connection with the collapse of a bridge near Talapadar vilage in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
Patra was arrested from Tikiri in Rayagada district, informed SDPO Hemant Padhi.
It may be mentioned that the under-construction bridge over Negi river collapsed killing a worker Mahendra Mali on the spot and injuring three others.
A complaint was filed and case registered against Patra, contractor Ashish Biswal and Junior Engineer Niranjan Sahu. While Biswal arrested two days after the incident, the other two remained absconding.

Development Commissioner Pradeep Jena had directed for investigation into the case.
The construction of the bridge, estimated at Rs 2.41 crore, is being taken up by a Bhubaneswar-based contractor under the Biju Setu Scheme of Rural Development Department. The bridge was scheduled to be completed in March 2019.
