Cuttack: An assistant executive engineer in Odisha’s Bhadrak district has been dismissed from service after his conviction in corruption case by Vigilance court.
Odisha Vigilance had filed the chargesheet against Sankarsan Behera, assistant executive engineer, Akhuapada Irrigation Sub-Division, Bhandaripokhori in the district for misappropriation of Govt. funds.
, was dismissed from Govt. service as per provision of OCS(CCA) Rules,1962 today by the competent authority following his conviction by Hon’ble Spl. Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar in corruption case.
Behera was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar on May 10, 2023 and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 2 years and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for the offence under Section 13(2)/ 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, the court ordered him to undergo RI for 3 more months.
The court further sentenced him to RI for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 under Section 418/120-B IPC. The court also sentenced him to RI for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 under Section 468 IPC.
Following conviction of Behera, Odisha Vigilance communicated to the competent authority to take appropriate action against him. Accordingly, Behera was dismissed from government service by the competent authority for corruption.
