Sambalpur: The authorities of Odisha’s Sambalpur University on Friday suspended an assistant professor of the Odia department, Shukamuni Meher, whom a student had accused of mental and physical harassment.
“The University administration received a written complaint from a female student of the Odia department last evening. She had accused him of harassing her both mentally and physically. Taking the matter seriously, we immediately suspended the assistant professor,” said University Registrar Nruparaj Sahu.
He further said that the matter has been referred to Internal Complaint Committee (ICC). “Further action will be taken on basis of the probe report,” he added.
Last month, an assistant professor of Political Science department of the varsity was suspended after he was accused of mentally harassing a female colleague, as a preventive action to stop him from influencing the investigation.
In her complaint addressed to the university vice-chancellor, the woman teacher, also an assistant professor, alleged that the accused had been mentally harassing her for no reason since 2016. She further claimed he came to the department in an inebriated condition during office hours.
