At Least 10 Passengers Die After Bus Turns Turtle On J&K Highway

Udhampur: At least ten people were killed after a bus overturned on the Ramnagar-Udhampur highway in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.

The death toll is likely to rise as several of the injured are in critical state, authorities said. The tragic accident occurred near Kaghote, a stretch notorious for its sharp turns and challenging terrain, as reported by News 18.

The bus was over-speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle, locals said. The

bus skidded off the road and flipped, trapping many passengers under the wreckage. Local residents were the first to reach the scene, initiating immediate rescue efforts before official teams arrived.

Upon receiving the information, senior district officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), rushed to the spot to coordinate a large-scale rescue operation.

The injured have been evacuated and shifted to nearby medical facilities, with the most severe cases being moved to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Udhampur, where a team of specialists has been put on high alert. The SDM has instructed health officials to ensure that the best possible medical care is provided to the survivors.

A formal investigation has been launched by the police. It is being ascertained whether the driver of the bus is among the dead or injured.
