At Least 132 Killed In Nepal Earthquake; PM Modi Says India Stands In Solidarity

Kathmandu: At least 132 people were killed and more than 140 injured after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal Friday midnight. The tremors of the powerful earthquake in Nepal were felt as far away as Delhi, with the epicentre being recorded near Jajarkot’s Ramidanda.

Jajarkot and Rukum were the two districts hit worst by the earthquake.
“Ninety-two people died in Jajarkot and 40 in Rukum,” home ministry spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai told news agency AFP.

Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel are currently mobilised to carry out rescue and relief operations.

The impact of the quake that took place 11.47 pm Friday was felt in Kathmandu and surrounding districts, and even up to New Delhi in neighbouring India.

Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ headed towards the incident site with a medical team Saturday morning. Both Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel have been mobilized to carry out rescue works, officials said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed anguish over the loss of lives and damage caused by an earthquake in Nepal and asserted that India stands in solidarity with its neighbouring country and is ready to extend all possible assistance.

“Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we wish the injured a quick recovery,” he said on X.
