At SRCC, Modi Drops Gen Z Slang: Calls Alumni ‘OGs’, Says College Name Is A ‘Flex’New Delh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday and spoke in Gen Z slang, using words like “OG”, “flex” and a line from the film Dhurandhar as he addressed the college’s centenary celebrations.
He praised SRCC alumni, took on opponents over the economy and recalled his 2013 “glass full” vision, contrasting it with India’s latest 7.8% quarterly growth.
‘OG’ Alumni And A Campus ‘Flex’
Modi said SRCC’s former students have carried the college’s name across the world. “SRCC’s alumni have been very special… they took the glory of the college to the global level. If I put it in your language, the alumni here are the OGs,” he said.
He added: “Dhurandhar na ho lekin dhoom machai hei (They may not be the stalwarts, but they have made a splash).”
Speaking about the college’s reputation today, he said: “Even today in DU, saying you are from SRCC is a flex in itself.”
From ‘Fragile Five’ To ‘Fully Filled’ Glass
Modi attacked political rivals over the economy, saying those who had pushed India into the “Fragile Five” list in 2013 now find the 7.8% quarterly growth hard to accept, as reported by The New Indian Express.
He said his 2013 SRCC address “became a wave” and its impact is still felt. “India in 2013 was dealing with a series of challenges, including terror attacks, inflation and corruption. Growth was at its lowest and inflation was at the peak,” he said, adding that scams and corruption were rampant.
Recalling his optimism metaphor, Modi said: “In 2013, when I came to SRCC, I presented a vision. Whatever I said back then was my conviction. I have always lived by those words. Dedicating my life to the nation was an emotion that took the form of words. I gave the example of a glass filled with water. Some people see the glass as half full. Some say it is half empty. ‘I said there are people who can see the glass as fully filled, half with water and half with air. It was a time when the country was lacking hope. So I said, “I see the glass as fully filled”,’” he said.
