New Delhi: AAP leader Atishi officially took charge as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi on Monday, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. Drawing a symbolic comparison to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Atishi said, “My situation is like that of Bharat, when Lord Shri Rama went into exile, and Bharat had to govern in his absence.”
Atishi, 43, vowed to run the government for the next four months until the upcoming elections, just as “Bharat ruled with Lord Ram’s ‘khadaun’ (sandals) on the throne”.
In a symbolic gesture, there is an empty and bigger chair next to Atishi’s in her office.
While assuming her post, she said “Arvind Kejriwal has set an example of dignity and morality in politics, but BJP has left no stone unturned to tarnish his image,” reported PTI.
Notably, Atishi took charge as Delhi’s eighth Chief Minister, becoming the youngest leader to do so. This comes a day after she took oath as the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi during a ceremony at the Raj Niwas.
