Berhampur: An attempt to loot an ATM of Indian Bank at Khalingi under Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district was thwarted on Saturday night.
According to locals, some miscreant went to the ATM kiosk and when they tried to break it open by cutting the locks, a siren started blowing forcing them to flee the area.
Police rushed to the spot and thanked the bank authorities for installing the equipment to prevent ATM loot incidents. They also informed that the ATM kiosks of other banks should also install the same facility.
In a similar case, on June 26, a group of looters had failed to steal cash from another ATM of SBI near Gopalpur junction in the district. They reportedly fled the spot after seeing a police patrol vehicle.
In another incident, a few unidentified miscreants attempted to break open an ATM at Ankuli here by using gas cutters but failed to commit the crime.
