Keonjhar: An attempt by miscreants to loot an ATM was foiled following quick steps taken by an alert villager in Champua area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district in the early hours of Sunday.
As per information, around five miscreants came in an SUV to the ATM kiosk of the State Bank of India (SBI) at Chimla under Champua police limits in the wee hours.
As the miscreants tried to break the machine in an attempt to loot cash, a resident staying nearby could hear the noise and came out of his house.
When the villager proceeded towards the ATM kiosk, the miscreants fired in the air, abused him in Hindi and warned him against coming closer.
Though the villager went back, he alerted others in the area about the incident. The locals then informed Champua police about the miscreants and a team rushed to the spot. Sensing trouble, the miscreants had fled the scene by then.
Police launched an investigation into the incident. The miscreants were suspected to have moved into neighbouring Jharkhand.
