New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on the importance of local made products and self-reliance, the Home Ministry on Wednesday announced that all the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) canteens will only sell swadeshi products. This will be applicable from June 1.
The paramilitary canteens serve around 50 lakh family members of Army personnel. They do sales worth Rs 2,800 crore in a year. The canteens serve all paramilitary forces like Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Security Guard (NSG) and Assam Rifles.
Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that focus on local products will take India on the path to global leadership.
“This is not the time to lag behind but to turn a crisis into an opportunity. If every Indian resolves to use only Made in India products, then the country will become self-reliant,” the home ministry said in a press statement.
