ATS Raids Across Maharashtra; 40 Tied To Pak-Based Gang Leader Questioned

Mumbai: In a large‑scale operation on Wednesday, the Maharashtra Anti‑Terrorist Squad (ATS) carried out raids at more than 40 locations across the state and questioned around 40 people suspected of links to a Pakistan‑based gangster, officials said, PTI reported.

According to ATS sources, the sweep — which began in the early hours — targeted individuals who were allegedly in contact with Shahzad Bhatti and members of his syndicate.

The searches were conducted in Mumbai and extended to Akola, N

anded, Pune, Mira Road in Thane, Nallasopara in Palghar, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nagpur and several other towns and districts across Maharashtra.

An ATS official said the action followed specific intelligence about suspicious activity by certain persons believed to be under the gang’s influence.

Bhatti, who reportedly operates from abroad, is accused of attempting to recruit and radicalise Indian youth on the syndicate’s behalf.

“He was allegedly trying to influence youth in India for unlawful activities,” an official said.

Officials said investigations are ongoing and that the probe will continue as suspects are questioned, with authorities expecting to recover more information in the coming days. Investigators are reviewing digital records, phone data and financial transactions where available, and will decide on arrests or further legal action based on evidence gathered and statements recorded.
