Bhubaneswar: Four employees of Mundali toll gate in Odisha’s Cuttack district were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the attack on a group of tourists from Chhattisgarh.
They have been booked under Section 147, 148, 341, 384, 323, 324, 325, 307, 427, 506, 354 (B) and 149 of the IPC, police said. The arrested persons have been produced before a local court.
The incident took place when the tourists were returning to their home state in two buses after spending around 17 days in different places. Their last stop was at Nandankanan after which they were on their way back home when the incident took place on Wednesday at the Mundali toll gate.
An argument ensued between the tourists and employees of the toll gate over collection of toll fees. Thereafter, some toll gate staff attacked the tourists with wooden planks and bamboo sticks.At least 11 tourists, including two women, were injured in the attack.
Athagarh sub-collector Hemant Swain had earlier said that stern action will be taken against the guilty after a thorough investigation.
